Chapter 1 *BASEBALL IN THE WIND*
Sam threw the baseball in a crouched position straight forward and in high speed at Jim who stood ready whit the bat. Jim had brown/yellowish hair, thick and black eyebrows, and he had big muscles to be 38 years old. He wore a grey T-shirt, and a too tight jeans. Jim swung the bat when Sam threw, but he was just to late, and he sliced the ball so it landed some paces behind him. The sun shone on the heaven on the great summer day, and it was a great day for playing some baseball in the great state Springfield. Soundlessly the wind brushed the four friend's shirt's with a comforting chilling coldness, a perfect day.
Will stood behind Jim with a brown, almost tear apart baseball glove. He was crouching, and wore his blue baseball hat with red letters saying Babe Ruth, his favorite baseball player of all time. Will was a baseball freak, and that is not a single drop of lie. He had almost dropped school to train baseball professional for England's national team, but his friends had managed him to take the smartest choice, finish his education. Will has black and short hair, have the brownest skin of them all, and the greatest working attitude and attacking spirit. That was what his friends were most amazed about with the guy, in the age of 34. Ron stood just beside Sam, and studied what happened with a big smile. Ron was the smartest in the friend group, and had the best education. He wore glasses, but he were in no means a ''nerd'', if we use the description of that word from the high-school language, were a ''nerd'' is someone who reads books in his spare time; play role-playing games and see Harry Potter movies three times a weekend. Ron is just a guy that like's to read, and study, but he also like to be outside, and do some sport, or hang out with his friends in the city or something social. His friends liked him for his great joy, which almost always spread to all of the friends. A smile lengthen the life, is his motto. The green lane outside Sam's house at Evergreen Terrace was perfect for some baseball, and there was also a fence there, so the ball did not go to long way after a long shot. The road was also a bit away, so there was no danger for the ball to hit any car, and the nearest neighbor was also out of sight from the lane.

- Good try, said Sam to Jim after his miss, but it sounded a bit more ironically than he really meant.
- Just wait, said Jim, who was a man that did not cope with losing. He switched place with Ron, but did not smile, he would not smile until he had beaten Sam.
- Here come's the next one, said Sam as Ron stood ready with the bat.
- Just throw the ball, Ron said almost laughing. It seemed like he knew he was going to miss, and laughed before he was going to try. Sam sent the ball flying with one of his hardest throws, and Sam could not imagine Ron taking it. Will, behind Ron, had almost closed his fingers on his glove to catch the ball, but then Ron had swung the bat with great speed. A hard bash clanged in all their ears as they saw the perfect shot hit the fence many paces away. Ron just stood with his bat looking surprised, but still smiled.
- That I call a shot, Sam applauded.
- Just luck, said Ron, who did not like to brag. He did not like to take the glory, not for anything, others came always first.
- It was a great throw.
- Oh, shut up Ron, laughed Sam, and Ron laughed with him.
- Well, I think that is enough for today. It's sunday, and we have work tomorrow, what you say guys?
- The sofa is calling for me, said Will and smiled.
- And I will enjoy a great book, Ron popped in. Ron laughed.
- You never change, Ron. Sam looked at Jim, and he seemed thoughtful and in a far away dreamingland. He just walked, looking down in the ground, with his face expressless.
- Is it okay for you, Jim?
- What? Jim suddenly said, and it seemed like he popped out from a trance.
- We go home now, to get some rest.
- Yes, yes, of course. Sam took up the bat and the ball, and they started on their way home too their houses. Sam waved them goodbye when they got to the road, because they lived the other way. While he walked home, he could not stop thinking of Jim, but he thought it might be able to be just some silly and nervous thought. It was nothing wrong with Jim, everyone can slip out sometimes, and travel to the land of dreams. But Sam wondered if it could be something with his missed baseball shot, but it could not be that. It was just a simple baseball shot.
